Welcome to the

Foundation for the Preservation of

Western Heritage & Steam Trains

Our Mission

To heighten public awareness and appreciation of America's railroading history with focus on the unique impact of the railroad and steam-powered equipment and its historic significance in the Western United States.

Our Current Project

As its debut project, the RWH Foundation will be restoring a Climax-type geared steam locomotive to operating condition. Originally built in 1928 with a shop number of 1692, this locomotive is the youngest example of a Climax locomotive in existence. Only a handful of these rare machines exist today, and it is the goal of the RWH Foundation to bring this piece of history back to its former glory as an operational locomotive.
